About the Event
The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a remarkable urban wildlife sanctuary spanning over 1,000 acres, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and accessibility. As the nation’s first urban wildlife refuge, it provides a critical habitat for hundreds of species and is a haven for nature enthusiasts, hikers, birdwatchers, and families seeking an escape into nature.
The refuge is best known for its extensive trail system, including the popular Impoundment Trail, which circles a serene freshwater tidal marsh and offers opportunities to spot an incredible variety of wildlife, including egrets, herons, turtles, and beavers. The Boardwalk Trail provides an up-close view of the wetlands, perfect for birdwatching and photography, while the Darby Creek Trail offers a more wooded experience along the creek's banks.
The trail selected is rated easy. If you are new to hiking, this is the hike for you!
